Landscapes in Rhode Island
Watson Farm
455 North Road
Jamestown, R.I. 02835
(401) 423-0005
Acres: 260
Salt water estuaries, swamps, woodlands, haylands, orchards, and
open pastures make Watson Farm a
comprehensive learning experience, as well as a rare bucolic reminder
of the thriving seaside farms that once flourished in Rhode Island.
The property has been continually farmed from the mid 17th-century by
Anglo Americans and by Native Americans millennia before. Watson Farm
is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from June 1 through October
15, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 and brochures are provided for
self-guided tours.
Casey Farm
2325 Boston Neck Road
Saunderstown, R.I. 02874
(401) 295-1030
Acres: 300
Except for a brief period after the Revolution,
Casey Farm has been continuously
tenant-farmed. The current land holdings are virtually the same size
as when the farm stead was established in the 1660s, a rarity in
coastal New England. Today, resident farm managers raise organically
grown vegetables, herbs and flowers for subscribing households in a
Community Supported Agriculture program. Casey Farm is open Saturdays,
June 1 through October 15, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4.
